We kicked off our adventure with a Cool Ride from San José, taking Route 1 toward Miramar de Puntarenas. Upon reaching the center of this district in Montes de Oro, we traveled an additional 14 kilometers to Finca El Encanto in San Buenaventura de La Unión de Montes de Oro, Puntarenas, who guided us into this paradise.
The tour to Cerro El Encanto costs 5,000 colones, and for another 5,000, you can include meals. We decided to go worry-free and opted for the meal plan—definitely a good decision! If you prefer, you can bring your own food and only pay for the tour.

Just a short hike away lies Cerro El Encanto, a mountain that promises awe-inspiring views and an invigorating climb. As we walked through the lush woods and towering trees, we made our way toward the enchanting canyon of the Río Aranjuez. Every kilometer we covered was worth it for the incredible landscapes we encountered. After some exercise, nothing beats a refreshing dip in the clear, natural waters!

The Right Way to Explore
There are two ways to reach the canyon. The proper way is through La Finca Encanto, with a 12-kilometer round trip that takes about 6 hours, allowing you to enjoy various scenic points along the way. However, we strongly advise against the illegal route, as it poses significant dangers when descending from a different part of the canyon. Authorities are cracking down on those who attempt to access it improperly, so to fully enjoy the experience without risks, it’s best to follow our advice.
