Today was approved the Law Project 18.148, the Coastal Community Territories Law – TECOCOS. A big step for our wildlife in the beautiful coastal territories.

This reform movement initiated in reaction to a recent wave of planned evictions threatening specific coastal communities on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, following a decade of aggressive coastal tourism development.

The TECOCOS movement-integrated by over 60 coastal communities- has produced two historic law projects that were approved in the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica.

“Because the beaches, with their coves, cliffs, bays, birds, and animals, are all part of the INTERNAL ecology of the coastal towns, of each and every Costa Rican, and our seas are extensions of our spirituality within the EXTERNAL ecology. The beauty of THESE PLACES represents the perfect balance between man/woman and nature, and because our national spirit affirms it and is united with the sound of the waves, the sounds of fish, and the birds singing. For this reason, and because we renounce the cold cement that continues to kill our green dream, this law must be approved.”

Christmas is one of my favorite holidays in Costa Rica. We enjoy the company of the family and friends , we make parties, great food and delicious “tamales”.

Phenomenal Tamales for Breakfast!

Tamal is a typical Central American dish made of ground up corn, vegetables and meat. Every country prepares their tamales in a slightly different manner: in Mexico, for example, tamales are wrapped in corn husks and boiled. The passion of our young local talent is expressed from the root of his heart. Maybe is not a hit in the radio or television, maybe doesnt has an album but has all what a great performer need: Talent, Love, Passion and a juice rhythms/lyrics.

An extrenmatly energetic Cris Levelz is our local proud , who invest his time creating , composing and writing new music. Fresh style, full a of sensations, rich lyrics with positive feelings.

You can call his genre “Root”, but The the name is not so important -genres are more limiting than helpful-if you enjoy his music in our local stages because the true it is rare to meet a young singer/ composer with such developed talent, heart and professionalism.

Costa Rica Colombus Day: Día del Encuentro de las CulturasOctober 12th Costa Rica celebrated el Dia del Encuentro de Las Culturas, otherwise known as Colombus Day in the United States, “Dia de la Raza” in many American countries, Discovery Day in the Bahamas, and “Dia de las Americas” in Uruguay. This holiday marks the anniversary of Christopher Colombus’s first journey to the Americas, and the merging of different cultures between Europe and the Americas. He put his foot on America land that day in the year 1492, on an island in the Bahamas, which he called San Salvador. He came to America with his three “Carabelas” ( Boats): La pinta, La Niña y La Santa Maria.

NO MORE HUNTING IN COSTA RICA, WE SAID YES!! TO WILDLIFE.

After two days debating , last night in the first debate lawmakers approved wildlife law. 41 lawmakers voted in favor and 5 against. With This legislation Costa Rica becomes in the first Latin American country to ban hunting as sport. Also punishable by fines of up to ¢ 1.5 million to the people who kill or capture wildlife. The only exceptions are for scientific purposes or to survive.
